My Mother, Jackie Newman and Patsy Schwertner, inspires me to fight cancer.

Both my mom, Jackie Newman and my late mother-in-law, Patsy Schwertner are two amazingly strong and couragious women who have fought cancer over the past few years. My mom is still fighting breast cancer will grace and inspiration and my late mother-in-law lost her 9 year battle with cancer in 2006. These two women and their battles with cancer have changed the way I look view life and brought to my attention the road ahead in both diagnosing and treating various forms of cancer. While wonderful advancements have been made over the past 10 years there is still much ground to cover before we can prevail over this horrible, life-taking disease. A family member with cancer is not the only effected when diagnosed, but an entire family is impacted. Sometimes the ongoing struggle with cancer is just as difficult if not more trying than the actual loss due to this disease. There has got to be more done to advance our knowledge and that starts with engaging those around us, especially those with authority.
